Our 2021 vintage comprises 70% Cox apples; it’s our favourite variety. Perfectly expressive of a beautiful English apple: sweet, tangy, and bursting with flavour! There are supporting roles for other varieties including Russets (nutty sweetness) and Bramleys (to provide acidity), Falstaff, Gala and Spartan. All the individual components blended to create a harmonious symphony of taste.
The 2021 is vivacious, with a lively mousse and bubbles that linger for ages in your glass, bringing the cider to life. As ever, the sweetness is carefully balanced with the acidity to create a cider that is drier and more delicate than many ciders. It’s perfect served in a flute glass.
Peter Richards MW described Chalkdown cider as "..beautifully graceful and fine, almost balletic in its lightness and harmony. It's elegantly dry."
Chalkdown Cider has been awarded the prestigious International Cider Challenge Trophy for best bottle fermented/bottle conditioned cider for two years running - in 2017 and 2018. In 2019 it won the Gold Medal at the British Cider Championships

Perfect as an aperitif or to celebrate any occasion. You could add a drop of creme de mûre or other fruit liqueur to make a gorgeous cocktail.
Chalkdown was recommended in the BBC Good Food magazine in September 2018:
“Green apple deliciousness with honeyed, yeasty notes like you might get in an English sparkling wine. Better than Prosecco”
Back in 2014, I put aside just a few hundred bottles of Chalkdown Cider to try an experiment - what if we left our cider to age on its lees for a really extended period - like five years? Could we create something really special?
Well, I think we have and it’s now available for you to buy and try. It’s taken six years to create and once this limited stock is gone it won’t be available again for at least another six years.
Our “Chalkdown XLA” has all the hallmarks of our more recent vintages: fresh apples, balanced acidity and delicate bubbles. But the colour has started to take on a golden hue. The biscuity notes are more pronounced. The aroma and palate are more complex and the flavours linger on the palate for a long time.
This is definitely a cider to savour - in a flute glass - and to reflect on life’s pleasures. To try for yourself and experience how good a cider can be. Or best of all to share with your dearest friends.

How best to enjoy it? Well, certainly in a flute glass. Perhaps by yourself and lose yourself in the complex flavours and aromas that time has bestowed? Or with food - perhaps some cured meats or English cheeses? But then again it would make a wonderful gift - or a bottle to share with a close friend or lover?
A case of six would mean you could enjoy each of those and still have a bottle or two to spare.
